Ai-Ais is situated at the southern end of the Fish River Canyon and is about 75km from the Fish River Canyon Viewpoint. The Ai-Ais Resort is low, being just a couple of meters above the level of the river, and surrounded by high rock-faces. In the summer months the heat reflects of these. It is a hot place and in the summer months temperatures in excess of 50c are not uncommon. The name A-Ais in the Nama language means 'Very Hot'. The rest camp closes from the 1st Sunday in November to the 1st Sunday in April. During these months, which are the Namibian rainy season there is the risk of flash flooding of the Fish River.

If your feeling a bit travel weary after all of your touring around Namibia or your travels take you to the deep south  then this is the place to unwind before venturing on your tour of the country. Ai-Ais is a good place to relax and enjoy the hot spring waters that bubble up from deep in the earth and contain dissolved chlorides, fluorite and sulfates that are claimed to have therapeutic value.
