The S. von Bach Recreation Resort is
situated a few kilometres south of
Okahandja and is accessed from
the main B1 road. Direction signs are good. The dam was commissioned
in 1970, lays across the Swakop River and serves as
Windhoek's main
water supply dam, having a capacity of some 50 million cubic meters.
The Recreation Park is a popular 'get
away' weekend venue for Windhoekers. The surrounding game reserve
cover an area of 4,300 hectares and is populated by Kudu, Gemsbok
The dam is popular with the water ski
crowd and two local clubs have their own established facilities at
the dam. The dam is stocked with Blue Carper, Small-Mouth-Yellowfish,
Carp, Large Mouth Bass and Barbel. Angling permits can be
purchased at the NWR on site office.
